HCM CITY — Việt Nam remains among the top 10 busiest domestic flight markets globally, with the Hà Nội-HCM City route holding fourth place among the world’s busiest in 2024, according to air travel data provider OAG.
According to data from OAG, which ranks busy routes based on seat capacity availability, the route sold 10.6 million seats between October 2023 and September 2024, down 2 per cent from the previous year.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), the route accounts for over 22 per cent of domestic passenger traffic. On average, one out of every five domestic passengers travels on the route connecting the two biggest cities in the country.
Five domestic airlines, including national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, and Vietravel Airlines, currently operate daily flights on this route.
The route ranked below South Korea’s Jeju-Seoul route (14.18 million seats), Japan’s Fukuoka-Tokyo Haneda (11.9 million) and Sapporo-Tokyo Haneda (11.3 million), and above Australia’s Melbourne-Sydney (9.2 million).
In international routes, the Hong Kong-Taipei route has risen from third place last year to first place among international routes this year, with 6.7 million seats, up 45 per cent from last year.
It is followed by the Cairo-Jeddah route with 5.46 million seats and the Seoul Incheon-Tokyo Narita route with 5.4 million seats.
Last year, the busiest international route was Kuala Lumpur - Singapore, now fourth with 5.38 million seats, while Seoul-Osaka follows with 4.98 million seats. — VNS
