Vientiane – A ceremony was held in the northern Lao province of Xaysomboun on June 25 to inaugurate and handover four new irrigation systems funded by non-refundable aid from the Vietnamese Government.

These systems are set to transform the agricultural landscape of Anouvong and Thathom districts.

Viengsan Chantha, Chief of the Office of the Laos-Việt Nam Cooperation Committee, expressed his sincere thanks to the Vietnamese Party, Government and people for their support over the past years, particularly in aiding Lao localities facing infrastructure development challenges.

Viengsan Chantha underscored the critical need for joint efforts to effectively utilise these irrigation systems that meets the expectations of both Parties and Governments, ultimately contributing to the continued strengthening of the special bond and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Việt Nam.

Jointly managed by Việt Nam's COECCO Economic Cooperation Corporation and Xaysomboun authorities, the project costs more than VNĐ159.2 billion (US$6.63 million), with the Vietnamese Government contributing over VNĐ157.2 billion and Laos providing the remaining funds.

Once operational, these systems will serve agricultural production in the beneficiary districts, facilitating the production of commodities to gradually eliminate poverty for local residents. VNS
