HCM CITY — Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà has requested the People's Committee of HCM City review the feasibility and economic efficiency of the Cần Giờ international container transshipment port project in HCM City and its relation with Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu seaport and Cái Mép - Thị Vải terminal.

It is essential to define the expected outcomes of the project and report to the Prime Minister any issues that fall outside the jurisdiction of ministries or necessitate guidance from the Prime Minister, Hà said.

According to the Department of Transport of HCM City, Cần Giờ international container transshipment port project is expected to be an international transit centre of HCM City and the region.

This will attract shipping lines, transport companies, cargo owners, and logistics service businesses inside and outside the country to participate in the global transportation supply chain.

Cần Giờ International Transshipment Port is planned to be located in Con Chó islet area, Thạnh An Commune, Cần Giờ District.

The total investment for this port is approximately VNĐ129 trillion (US$ 5.5 billion).

The main port bridge is expected to have a total length of seven kilometres, while the wharf will be about two kilometres in length.

The estimated total area is about 571ha, including port bridges, warehouses, internal transportation, office area, worker residences, port operation, technical infrastructure and the water surface area for port operation.

The port is expected to contribute to the state budget VNĐ34 trillion to 40 trillion per year when fully operational.

The project must be completed early for submission to the Prime Minister to start in 2025 as planned. — VNS
