HÀ NỘI — The protection and promotion of human rights have always been high on Việt Nam's agenda since the founding of the country.

That was the remark by Phạm Anh Tuấn, director of the Authority of Foreign Information Service, Ministry of Information and Communications, at Thursday's press conference on human rights in Hòa Bình Province.

He said the Politburo had issued Directive 44 and Conclusion 46 to raise public awareness of human rights achievements and dismiss false and misleading information on the human rights situation in Việt Nam over the past years.

The Prime Minister pressed ahead with the communication efforts in 2022 by ratifying Decision 1079 to launch the Scheme to promote the human rights situation in the country between 2023 and 2028.

"Việt Nam has established itself as an active contributor to global human rights progress. In 2022, the country was elected to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2023-25 tenure," said Tuấn.

Lê Hải Bình, deputy head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Communication and Education, said Việt Nam's rising position on the global human rights stage requires a new communication strategy to convey the country's stance on human rights.

"It's crucial to keep the world well-informed about Việt Nam's stance and its measures to safeguard and promote human rights," said Bình.

Nguyễn Văn Kỷ, deputy director of the Standing Office of the Government's Human Rights Steering Committee, said Việt Nam had gone to great lengths to safeguard and promote human rights, with "no one left behind" being its motto.

"Việt Nam is steadfastly committed to a vision where all people shall collectively benefit from the fruits of development and no one is left behind," said Kỷ.

Regardless of the country's efforts, "malicious actors" keep spreading false and misleading information to paint an inaccurate picture of its human rights situation, raising the need for anti-misinformation actions against their hostile activities. 

Đinh Tiến Dũng, deputy director of the Authority of Foreign Information Service, Ministry of Information and Communications, underlined the role of on-the-scene reporters in fighting misinformation on the human rights situation in Việt Nam.

About 280 representatives from 26 provinces and cities took part in the press conference. — VNS
