HÀ NỘI — The friendly neighbourly relations between Việt Nam and Cambodia, as well as between the two legislative bodies, have continued to be strengthened.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Huy Tăng emphasised this during the coming official visit of the President of the National Assembly (NA) Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary to Việt Nam from November 30 to December 2, deepening the ties between the two nations.

The ambassador said that President Khuon Sudary's visit to Việt Nam marks a new milestone, enhancing the solidarity and longstanding friendship between the two nations. It further intensifies the comprehensive cooperation between both countries on the grounds of equality and mutual benefit.

The legislatures of both countries signed the first cooperation agreement in 2007, serving as a crucial legal framework for the two legislatures to expand cooperation in areas related to their parliamentary functions, he said.

Up to now, the relationship between the two parliaments has been and continues to be deepened and developed strongly, typically maintaining regular exchanges of delegations at all levels and specialised committees, hosting conferences and seminars, facilitating practical experience exchanges, providing training support, and executing bilateral collaborative projects.

Close collaboration extended to international parliamentary forums like the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Moreover, endeavours are underway to enhance trilateral cooperation mechanisms involving the specialised committees of the Parliaments of Cambodia, Laos, and Viêt Nam.

In a recent meeting with the new President Khuon Sudary, both sides emphasised the profound significance of cooperation and mutual support between the two countries, as well as among the three nations of Cambodia, Laos, and Việt Nam in the past and in the current nation-building and development efforts, the ambassador said.

The two also affirmed the importance of maintaining solidarity, traditional neighbourly friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between Việt Nam and Cambodia today and in the future.

Both parties agreed to closely coordinate efforts, ensuring that the cooperative relationship between the two countries and their legislative bodies continues to develop. They pledged to strengthen the close bond and coordinate the implementation of the agreements signed by both sides to contribute to consolidating and enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Furthermore, both sides also concurred on increasing comprehensive cooperation, especially in trade, investment, and tourism; providing mutual support in various fields to bring tangible benefits to both parties, the ambassador added.

The legislatures of the two countries signed the first Cooperation Agreement in 2007, which has been amended, supplemented, and newly signed in 2022 to align with the current reality of the relationship between the two legislative bodies.

Based on this agreement, both sides have focused on exchanging specific measures to promote cooperation between the specialised committees of the two legislatures, facilitating the exchange of experiences and expertise among the legislators.

The two parties have also collaborated to promote legal policies supporting businesses, overseas Vietnamese, and workers living, studying, and doing business in each country, he said.

Additionally, they have exchanged the priority measures of the two legislative bodies in issuing legal policies to support the two governments in continuing economic development and fostering cohesion between the ministries and sectors of the two countries. — VNS
