HCM CITY — The Mỹ Thuận 2 Bridge project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, according to contractors.

Machinery, equipment and human resources continued to work throughout the five-day public holiday from April 29 to May 3.

The project has four stages, three for road infrastructure and one for the bridge.

The road is over 78 per cent complete.

Once completed, the bridge will be connected to the Trung Lương-Mỹ Thuận and Mỹ Thuận-Cần Thơ expressways.

The project is expected to ease traffic on the current Mỹ Thuận bridge and National Highway 1A.

The Mỹ Thuận 2 Bridge will extend from An Thái Trung intersection on the Trung Lương-Mỹ Thuận Expressway in Tiền Giang Province’s Cái Bè District and end at the intersection with National Highway 80 in Vĩnh Long, the starting point of the Mỹ Thuận - Cần Thơ Expressway.

The main bridge and approach roads will have a total length of 6.61km.

With a length of 1.9km, the main bridge will have six lanes and a speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour.

The project, with a cost of more than VNĐ5 trillion (US$215 million), includes VNĐ3.4 trillion ($145 million) for construction and equipment.
