HÀ GIANG — A British tourist fell from a cliff in Hà Giang Province after trying to climb to the edge to take a photo, local authorities confirmed Sunday.

Although the tourist fell just two metres, he suffered heavy bleeding to his left leg. After receiving first aid from the local police and medical staff, the patient was transferred to Hà Nội.

The accident took place on Friday afternoon at a tourist attraction spot in Pải Lủng Commune, Mèo Vạc District.

Dubbed the ‘cliff of death', the location has dangerous terrain with an unstable, rocky structure.

Local authorities had set up a danger warning sign and fences blocking the route.

Despite the risks, many tourists still climb to the spot for views and to take photographs, despite it being extremely slippy due to the smooth surface and no handrails. — VNS
