LÂM ĐỒNG — Đà Lạt City will expand its administrative boundaries by 2045 under a plan signed by Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, said the Lâm Đồng Province People’s Committee.

Under the PM’s decision, the expanded range has a radius of 30km from the existing centre of Đà Lạt City.

After the adjustment, Trạm Hành and Xuân Trường communes and a part of the Lạc Dương District will be included into Đà Lạt City.

The decision also emphasised that the adjustment is in a roadmap to convert Đức Trọng District into a town, and insert all of Lạc Dương District into Đà Lạt City.

Adjusting Đà Lạt City’s administrative boundaries inherited a previous master plan issued in 2014. It was the master plan of Đà Lạt City and its vicinity to 2030 with a vision to 2050, which is often called master plan 704.

In master plan 704, Đà Lạt City’s urban area is oriented to expand to Lạc Dương, Đơn Dương, Đức Trọng and Lâm Hà districts.

Planning experts said that master plan 704 established an urban vision, but some obstacles made it difficult to develop an urban area of the city. For instance, Đà Lạt City was established by altitude, but regulations related to urban development are based on the administrative boundaries and population.

Therefore, when proposing to adjust Đà Lạt’s area, the Lâm Đồng Province authorities asked to widen the city’s administrative boundaries to about 335,930ha.

The proposal was accepted by PM Chính.

Under the plan, Đà Lạt’s population by 2030 will be about 1,100,000 - 1,150,000 people, and by 2050 will be about 2,250,000 - 2,300,000 people.

The urban population by 2030 will be about 850,000 - 900,000 people. By 2050 it will be about 1,800,000 - 1,850,000 people.

The rural population by 2030 will be about 250,000 people and about 450,000 by 2050.

The PM asked departments implementing the general planning of Đà Lạt City and its vicinity until 2045 to pay attention to the relationship between Đà Lạt City and Bảo Lộc City, Liên Khương Airport, Phan Rang-Đà Lạt railway line and the national highway system.

The relationship must support the sustainable development of expanded Đà Lạt City and ensure compliance with the national development master plan.

The industry sector will be limited to the inner parts of the city. Landfills and cemeteries will be moved to suitable places. — VNS
