HÀ NỘI — The Confederation of Labour in localities nationwide is carrying out many plans and mobilising resources together with local Trade Union at all levels to prepare Tết (Lunar New Year) gifts for labourers, especially poor and disadvantaged employees.

In the southern province of Bình Dương, the Trade Union is handing out rice, cooking oil, fish sauce and organising an end-of-year party for them.

The total budget is estimated at more than VNĐ200 billion (US$8.4 million).

The Trade Union at all levels also spent up to VNĐ20billion ($842,800), organising the "Spring train of gratitude" to give 5,000 round-trip train tickets to union members and workers in difficult circumstances so that they could return to their hometowns to celebrate Tết in the central and northern provinces.

The provincial Confederation of Labour will also give Tết gifts to 82,810 local employees at a cost of around VNĐ41 billion ($1.72 million).

Chairwoman of the provincial Confederation of Labour Nguyễn Kim Loan, said this year's activities concentrated on giving priority to union members and workers in extremely difficult circumstances, suffering from occupational accidents and serious diseases.

Loan said that the activities of taking care of workers needed the co-operation of local businesses, trade unions, and the support of owners who have rent rooms for workers to bring a Tết’s reunion for employees.

Activities to celebrate Tết would help employees have a more complete holiday both physically and mentally, she said.

Techtronic Industries Việt Nam Manufacturing (TTI) Co., Ltd, located in the province, has just organised a "festival" for more than 5,000 workers with food stalls, aiming to welcome Tết, creating an exciting atmosphere for employees.

Hồng Nguyễn Nhất Linh, chairman of the company’s Trade Union said similar activities were organised by the company every year to create a playground and connect employees, contributing to building the cohesion and strong development.

The Trade Union at General Shoes Co., Ltd, based in the province, has announced the Tết bonus for more than 7,500 workers. Employees will be rewarded with one month of basic salary if they worked for a full year.

According to the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, as of Monday, incomplete statistics showed that more than 700 local businesses announced Tết bonuses for workers. Most businesses announced Tết bonus to be equal to one month salary.

In the Mekong Delta Kiên Giang Province, the provincial Confederation of Labour will give Tết gifts to 8,000 poor and disadvantaged labourers, worth VNĐ500,000 (US$21) each.

Deputy chairman of the Confederation of Labour Nguyễn Minh Dũng said that it would focus on taking care of employees on the occasion of the 2023 Lunar New Year, especially disadvantaged employees so that all employees will enjoy Tết.

In addition to the funding of the Trade Union at all levels, it also mobilised the resources from society, the authorities and employers to prepare Tết gifts for labourers, he said.

Lê Thanh Tòng, chairman of the Confederation of Labour of Kiên Lương District said the confederation had actively surveyed the life of employees in the district grasping the situation of employees, especially disadvantaged employees, to prepare gifts for them.

The confederation also co-operated with Khải Minh Group to sell goods with preferential prices to union members and employees, he said.

Trade unions at all levels also strengthened dialogue related to the implementation of salary and bonus policies in order to take care of the material and spiritual life of union members and employees, he said.

Recently, the provincial Trade Union launched the event "Tết’s union – Spring’s gathering", with the motto "All union members and employees will enjoy Tết", he said.

It would also hold "Trade Union’s Tết Fair 2023" with many activities such as zero đồng booth; health consulting for employees for free and giving Tết gifts to union members and employees in difficult circumstances, he said.

In Hà Nội, the city’s Confederation of Labour decided to support VNĐ 500,000 for poor and disadvantaged employees, who suffer from job loss and salary delay.

Beneficiaries are union members and employees working at local production and business enterprises with trade unions under the management of the city’s Confederation of Labour or enterprises without a trade union but have paid union trade fees.
