HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội Department of Transport has approved the proposal for pilot implementation of renting electric bicycles and motorbikes to make it easier for passengers to access bus routes and the bus rapid transit (BRT) system.
The pilot project is expected to be launched by the end of November, on the route from the AEON Mall Hà Đông to the Văn Khê BRT platform.
With funding from the European Commission and relevant agencies, passengers will be able to use electric two-wheelers for free of charge in the pilot period.
The vehicles will help passengers of the Kim Mã-Yên Nghĩa BRT route to travel between the Văn Khê bus stop and Aeon Mall Hà Đông.
People wishing to use the system will be supported by BRT staff to install the required application on their mobile phones and register their information at the bus stop and the mall. After being verified, the passengers can hire electric vehicles for their transit routes between the two destinations, which both offer parking spaces for their private means of transport if any.
The process of moving between the two points is tracked and stored in a system via the previously installed application. The app also indicates the bikes’ battery level and sends an alert if problems arise.
This pilot project is considered as one of the solutions to strengthen the management of road vehicles, aiming to reduce congestion and environment pollution in the city. — VNS
