HÀ NỘI — A total of 22,804 new COVID-19 infections were confirmed in Việt Nam on Tuesday, with the capital registering fewer than 2,000 cases for the first time in more than three months.

The new transmissions brought the country’s total caseload to 10,272,964 since the pandemic broke out, ranking 12th out of 227 countries and territories worldwide.

Hà Nội continued to log the highest number of infections with 1,942 cases. From tomorrow, kindergartens in the city will reopen to welcome students back after nearly one year of disruption due to the pandemic.

Other localities with over a thousand new daily cases were Phú Thọ (1,384), Yên Bái (1,102), Đắk Lắk (1,092) Nghệ An (1,046) and Bắc Giang (1,012).

The remaining transmissions were detected in Bắc Kạn (999), Lào Cai (988), Vĩnh Phúc (915), Quảng Ninh (905), Tuyên Quang (823), TP. 202,184 patients were declared recovered from the disease, raising the total number of patients given the all-clear to 8,757,107 since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, 28 COVID-related fatalities were reported on Tuesday, lifting the country’s virus death toll to 42,858, or 0.4 per cent of total infections.

More than 208.59 million doses of coronavirus vaccines have been administered in Việt Nam so far, including nearly 17.23 million doses for children aged from 12 to 17. — VNS
