National tally of COVID-19 cases surpasses 1.5 million on Friday

The number of COVID-19 infections in Việt Nam surpassed 1.5 million, as the country reported 15,236 new cases in 59 provinces and cities on Friday.

HÀ NỘI — The number of COVID-19 infections in Việt Nam has surpassed 1.5 million, as the country reported 15,236 new cases in 59 provinces and cities on Friday.

Among the new transmissions, 15,215 were domestic and 21 imported.

The Mekong Delta province of Bến Tre led the country in new infections with 1,246 cases, followed by Cà Mau (1,071), HCM City (1,040) and Tây Ninh (940).

The total number of cases in Việt Nam has now reached 1,508,473.

A total of 31,057 patients recovered on Friday, increasing the number of recoveries nationwide to 1,095,518.

Currently, 7,912 patients are being treated in hospitals across the country.

A further 246 COVID-related deaths were confirmed on Friday, including 60 cases in HCM City.

The total number of vaccine doses used in Việt Nam is now 136,861,720, including 75,561,338 first doses, 60,171,020 second doses and 1,129,362 third doses.

There were 1,118,514 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered on December 16.  — VNS
