HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính yesterday pointed out five areas of cooperation that Việt Nam and Japan can focus on to strengthen their strategic partnership.
He was speaking to his Japanese counterpart Suga Yoshihide over the phone.
The areas are infrastructure development, COVID-19 vaccine production, increasing Japanese investments in Việt Nam, sending Vietnamese students to study in Japan, and training high-quality human resources in Việt Nam with financial support by Japan.
The Vietnamese PM said he appreciates Japan’s collaboration and support for Việt Nam’s development.
He also expressed his wish to visit Japan at the invitation of Japanese PM Suga Yoshihide.
PM Suga said he hopes to deepen the strategic partnership between Việt Nam and Japan and to take it to a new level.
He congratulated PM Chính on being elected as the Prime Minister of Việt Nam and said he appreciates the work Chính has done for the two countries as the chairman of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians' Group.
He agreed with the areas of cooperation pointed out by PM Chính, saying Japan will continue helping Việt Nam to develop traffic, energy, environment infrastructure and enhance their space cooperation.
He also said Japan will ensure Việt Nam have all the COVID-19 vaccines it needs, and continue to welcome Vietnamese students to study in Japan and help Việt Nam improve its human resource quality.
The two leaders agreed to increase discussions and collaborations between ministries and sectors to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Việt Nam-Japan strategic partnership.
They also agreed to continue tackling regional and international issues together, and work closely with each other at multilateral forums such as the United Nations and ASEAN. — VNS
