HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc hosted a reception in Hà Nội yesterday for Myanmar’s Minister of International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin.

The Minister is in Việt Nam for the ninth meeting of the two countries’ Joint Committee for Bilateral Co-operation.
Phúc said the success of the ninth meeting will be an important contribution to the results-oriented development of the countries’ comprehensive cooperative partnership.
He congratulated Myanmar on its recent socio-economic achievements, adding that Việt Nam always supports the country’s efforts to promote the national peace and reconciliation process.
Minister Tin highlighted the thriving bilateral relationship, which was set up in 1975 and has been unceasingly enhanced through mutual high-ranking visits.
Economic, trade, and investment ties are also flourishing and have much room to expand, he said, noting the countries’ leaders set the bilateral trade target at US$1 billion in 2020.
The official also congratulated Việt Nam on its major economic achievements and the successful organisation of the second summit between the US and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, actively contributing to global peace and stability.
The PM asked both sides to bolster partnerships in economy, trade, and investment because there remains much potential and many cooperation opportunities.
They need better mechanisms to promote cooperation for common development, he added.
He said Việt Nam’s continued support for Myanmar at multilateral forums and called for further coordination, especially as Việt Nam holds the ASEAN Chair in 2020 and is running for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.
The PM also voiced his hope that Minister U Kyaw Tin would keep making contributions to relations between the two countries, as well as among ASEAN member states. –VNS
