VĨNH PHÚC — National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân met with female deputies, ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions and international organisations in Việt Nam in the northern province of Vĩnh Phúc on Saturday ahead of International Women’s Day (March 8).

She said Vietnamese women today play an important role in the cause of national reform and development.

Earlier this week, Việt Nam was honoured to host the meetings of the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (APF)’s Women’s Parliamentary Network and the APF Education, Communication and Cultural Affairs Committee, Ngân said.

Through the events, many issues related to women were discussed such as gender equality and women’s rights, the application of digital technology in women’s start-ups and the trafficking of women and children, she added.

Việt Nam will continue to be a responsible participant of women’s parliamentary groups in the forums of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), she said.

The top legislator asked the Vietnamese women’s parliamentary group to roll out new action programmes to enhance the role of Vietnamese women as well as female legislators in the country’s sustainable development and international integration.

Over the years, Việt Nam has received the support of the international community which is represented by female ambassadors and heads of international organisations in the country, Chairwoman Ngân said.

Through them, Việt Nam has got valuable experience from countries as well as financial and technical support to promote international integration and realise the targets set in the national agenda 2030 on sustainable development towards inclusive growth, she added.

Armenian Ambassador to Việt Nam Raisa Vardanyan said Vietnamese women have been playing a crucial role in national development.

Việt Nam has gained remarkable achievements in ensuring gender equality with women involved in promoting economic growth and working in the private sector, she said.

The country has also implemented initiatives to help increase women’s business capacity and leadership, she added. — VNS
