HÀ NỘI – The Government of Việt Nam creates favourable conditions for Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs and Việt Nam’s Ministry of Public Security to enhance co-operation, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc affirmed at a reception for Minister Kasiviswanathan Shanmugam in Hà Nội on Thursday.
He highlighted the strategic partnership between Việt Nam and Singapore and said the two countries are expanding ties in all realms, with Singapore the third biggest foreign investor in Việt Nam.
The co-operation achievements Việt Nam and Singapore have gained over the past few years were significantly contributed to by the two ministries, he added.
He suggested the two ministries increase consultation to address issues of mutual concern, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability and development in each nation and the region.
Regarding fighting crime, the PM asked the two sides to maintain co-operation mechanisms and strengthen information exchange and investigation co-ordination, especially in ensuring cyber security and dealing with high-tech crime, economic crime, drug crime and terrorism.
Shanmugam, also the Minister for Law, told the host that his visit to Việt Nam aims to tighten ties with the country’s Ministry of Public Security.
While informing PM Phúc about the two ministries’ co-operation, Shanmugam said the two sides have worked together to enforce law in the fight against crime, fire prevention and rescue efforts.
The two ministries agreed to expand co-ordination in the near future, he added.
While discussing international matters, Shanmugam said ASEAN plays an increasingly important role in global co-operation.
He called on ASEAN members to promote solidarity and relations in the context of more complicated and unpredictable global political and commercial turmoil.
The minister expressed his hope that PM Phúc will continue backing co-operation between the two ministries in law-building and crime prevention.
The PM conveyed his congratulations to PM Lee Hsien Loong, the Singapore government and its people for successfully holding 33rd ASEAN Summit. – VNS
