BALI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc met with Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Chairman Rosan Perkasa Roeslani on Friday during his stay in Indonesia for the ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering.
The PM noted the encouraging development of Việt Nam-Indonesia ties, with US$6.5 billion in trade between the two countries in 2017. Indonesia has at least 70 investment projects in Vietnam worth more than $500 million; however, PM Phúc said there is still great potential to grow the investment partnership. He said that, given its role in promoting economic co-operation, KADIN should work closely with its Vietnamese counterpart.
He said KADIN should instruct the Indonesian Government to accept more imports from Việt Nam and work on verifying origin documentation for products, quality control and quarantine of agricultural products.
PM Phúc also called for more direct flights between tourist destinations in the two countries, noting that only a small percentage of the large populations of both countries would need to travel to make new flight paths successful. He asked the KADIN chairman to organise conferences on tourism, and said relevant Vietnamese agencies are ready to help.
Roeslani agreed there is room to expand the trade and investment relationship. He said Indonesia can take lessons from Việt Nam’s successful push to open its market and attract foreign investment. — VNS
