HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc committed all possible support to businesses from Canada’s Ontario to do business in Việt Nam during a reception in Hà Nội yesterday for Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne.
The PM said bilateral trade with Ontario was US$3 billion out of the total $4 billion trade between Việt Nam and Canada last year.
Phúc expressed his wish that two-way trade will grow at least 10-15 per cent in the future.
With potential for partnerships in mining, manufacturing, national defence-security, he called on more Canadian firms to invest in Việt Nam, noting that many Canadian investors have succeeded in the Southeast Asian country.
Wynne informed the host that Ontario is the first state to implement the Việt Nam-Canada co-operation agreement following the Việt Nam visit by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, adding that as home to a number of big corporations, Ontario contributes 40 per cent of the gross domestic product of Canada.
She said the business delegation accompanying her in the visit comprises representatives from nearly 50 enterprises seeking business opportunities in infrastructure, education, clean industry and health care.
Many non-profit organisations are also ready to assist Việt Nam in climate change response and environment protection, she said.
Agreeing with the host’s stance on free trade promotion, she said Ontario is actively pushing the Canadian administration on Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. — VNS
