HÀ NỘI – Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc held talks with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, yesterday, during which he affirmed the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent policy of paying attention to consolidating and developing ties with Cambodia.

At the talks, which took place on the threshold of the ninth Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Summit, PM Phúc expressed the wish that the Việt Nam-Cambodia relations would grow in line with the motto of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive partnership and durable sustainability”.

The Vietnamese leader spoke highly of Cambodia’s socio-economic achievements under the leadership of the Government and the Cambodia People’s Party (CPP) as well as PM Hun Sen.

PM Phúc believed that the ninth CLV Summit will be successful, thereby contributing to the enhanced co-operation among the three countries.

For his part, PM Hun Sen also affirmed that Cambodia is keen on boosting its relationship with Việt Nam.

The two PMs discussed a wide range of issues related to Việt Nam-Cambodia ties as well as measures to further foster the bilateral partnership in economy and trade, and to ensure security and political stability in each country.

Both leaders expressed their desire to soon complete the border demarcation so as to build the common border of peace, friendship, stability and development, thus facilitating border economic growth and people-to-people exchanges.

PM Phúc proposed the Cambodian Government and PM Hun Sen continue creating optimal conditions for Cambodians of Vietnamese origin to stabilise their lives so that they could contribute to Cambodia’s socio-economic development.

The two leaders also agreed to work closely on the organisation of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Việt Nam-Cambodia diplomatic relations in 2017, with the attendance at the inauguration ceremony of a bridge connecting Việt Nam’s An Giang Province and Cambodia’s Kandal Province in early next year as the first activity.

On this occasion, PM Phúc invited PM Hun Sen and his wife to visit Việt Nam soon. The invitation was accepted with pleasure. — VNS
