HÀ NỘI – Việt Nam attaches great importance to comprehensive co-operation with Chile, the first country in the Western Hemisphere to sign the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Việt Nam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Phạm Bình Minh said yesterday.
Minh spoke at a meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Edgardo Riveros Marin, on the latter’s official visit to Việt Nam. He also expressed his appreciation of the progress achieved in bilateral relations and the co-operation between the two countries in international forums.
For his part, Edgardo Riveros Marin expressed admiration for Việt Nam’s achievements over the past three decades, as well as the role and position of Việt Nam in the region and the world.
At the political consultation between the two ministries, Deputy Foreign Minister Hà Kim Ngọc and Deputy Minister Marin agreed that the recent cooperation between Việt Nam and Chile had achieved positive developments.
Two-way trade reached almost US$1 billion in 2015, increasing three times compared to 2010.
The two sides also agreed that there was potential for further co-operation in the fields of agriculture, manufacturing and processing, mining, fisheries and human resource training. --VNS
