HÀ NỘI — National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân has asked the northern mountainous province of Lạng Sơn to improve its investment environment to attract more investors.
She also instructed the province to focus on upgrading infrastructure, particularly transport, to promote its economic strength while speaking at a working session with provincial leaders during her visit to the locality yesterday.
Speaking highly of the province’s achievements over the past six months, she urged the province to review its socio-economic development strategy to successfully achieve the targets set in the 16th provincial Party Congress’s Resolution.
As for rural area building, the NA leader praised the locality’s goal of having another 13 communes recognised as new-style rural areas in 2016, asking it to step up the new-style rural construction and agricultural restructuring at the same time.
According to the province’s report, in the first half of 2016, local economic growth was maintained, with GDP up 3.64 per cent. Budget collection and spending was controlled, while socio-cultural activities received special attention.
Lạng Sơn is striving for economic growth of 8-9 per cent and average per capita income of VNĐ35-36 million (US$1,570-1,600) this year.
The same day, the NA chief also had a working session with leaders from Cao Lộc district, which shares a 75km border with China. She urged the district to focus on developing its border economy, preventing the smuggling of goods and maintaining border security in order to help ensure national security and defence. — VNS
