TÂY NINH — Vietnamese border guards received 127 citizens handed over by Cambodian authorities on Thursday, officials said, including a woman wanted on a special arrest warrant issued by Hà Nội Police.

The handover took place at the Tân Nam International Border Gate in the southern province of Tây Ninh.

The fugitive, identified as Nguyễn Thị Lợi, 43, a resident of Thái Nguyên Province, was detained on the spot and turned over to police for further legal action.

The 127 returnees – 91 men and 36 women, ranging in age from 15 to 60 – hailed from 29 provinces and cities across Việt Nam.

Authorities said most had been living and working illegally in Cambodia before being swept up in an enforcement operation by Cambodian authorities and subsequently repatriated.

After receiving the group, border guards worked with police to verify each individual's identity.

Those found to have crossed the border illegally were issued administrative fines. All were then transferred to provincial police in their home regions for further processing under Vietnamese law. — VNS
