HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Red Cross Society (VNRC) launched a programme to support the Cuban people with the theme '65 years of Việt Nam–Cuba friendship' on Wednesday.

The programme aims to mobilise resources to support the Cuban people in terms of medical supplies, necessities and sustainable development cooperation areas, helping people in Cuba overcome difficulties caused by the pandemic, natural disasters and blockade and embargo policies.

The 65-day programme aims to mobilise at least VNĐ65 billion (US$2.5 million) to help the Cuban people overcome difficulties and foster the special friendship between the two peoples.

Speaking at the programme launch, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) Đỗ Văn Chiến said that Việt Nam-Cuba solidarity is a priceless asset of the two nations. Together, Chiến said, we continue to write new pages of that friendship with concrete actions.

“The campaign to support the Cuban people has profound humanitarian significance. This is an action that demonstrates the tradition of humanity of the Vietnamese people and also is a vivid demonstration of the loyal, pure and close relationship between the two peoples of Việt Nam and Cuba,” said Chiến.

The programme not only aims to provide material support to help Cuba overcome its immediate difficulties, but also spreads a strong message of sharing, empathy and international solidarity, confirming that in any circumstance, the Vietnamese people will always stand shoulder to shoulder with the Cuban people.

This is a continuation of the 65-year tradition of brotherhood, during which brotherly love has overcome all geographical distances and economic conditions to become a lasting spiritual value, according to Chiến.

The event is one of a series of activities held to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Việt Nam - Cuba diplomatic relations (1960 - 2025), called 'Việt Nam - Cuba Friendship Year 2025'.

At the event, the Việt Nam Red Cross Society called on ministries, sectors, socio-political organisations, provinces, cities and the community to actively respond to and support the programme, contributing to further enhancing the image of a loyal, affectionate, steadfast, sharing and humane Việt Nam.

At the same time, VNRC also called on international organisations, diplomatic agencies, the business community and international friends in Việt Nam to enthusiastically respond and work together to help the Cuban people.

According to the VNRC, the Cuban people, especially children, the elderly and vulnerable groups, are currently facing many difficulties due to the prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters and the embargo policy.

Local and foreign organisations, individuals and people can support the programme through several direct and online channels, such as at the VNRC office at 82 Nguyễn Du Street in Hà Nội, via donation boxes in public places and mobile applications (Charity App, Viettel Money) or with QR codes.
