HÀ NỘI — Foreign affairs activities must aim at expanding and deepening relations, firmly consolidating a peaceful, stable and favourable environment for national development as well as enhancing Việt Nam's position and prestige in the international arena.

That was President Lương Cường's statement on Thursday while working with leaders of the Presidential Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and relevant units on a number of key tasks coming up.

At the meeting, the President pointed out that the future workload was very large, especially while preparing for important events of the Party and the country, as well as realising resolutions and conclusions of the Politburo on streamlining of the organisational apparatus towards the 14th National Party Congress.

Therefore, tasks need to be closely and smoothly coordinated. Once a decision has been made, it is necessary to work urgently, accurately, promptly, and in accordance with regulations with higher quality, he said.

Regarding foreign affairs, after listening to reports from leaders of the MoFA, President Cường welcomed and highly appreciated the efforts of the MoFA and relevant agencies in proactively and effectively conducting the foreign affairs activities.

The President praised the vibrant foreign affairs activities, which have significantly contributed to deepening Việt Nam's relations with its partners and enhancing the country's potential.

In particular, high-level foreign affairs activities play an important role, having strategic significance.

The President emphasised that foreign affairs activities need to be implemented with focus, key points, efficiency, closely following foreign affairs priorities.

There must be a harmonious, scientific, reasonable and balanced combination between outgoing and incoming delegations on all three pillars of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy.

Foreign affairs units must ensure comprehensiveness between regions and partners on the basis of an independent, autonomous, diversified and multilateral foreign policy.

The work must also strengthen the great national unity, contribute to protecting the Fatherland and at the same time successfully achieve other strategic goals of the country, including the economic growth target of over 8 per cent this year.

The President said that to successfully complete those goals, foreign affairs activities of senior leaders needed to be carefully prepared, logically and closely structured, and be creative and effective.

President Cường expressed his belief that the MoFA in particular and foreign affairs agencies will successfully complete the tasks assigned by the Party and State, making an important contribution to the cause of national construction and defence.

Amnesty

Regarding amnesty work, the President said that the decision on amnesty this year was issued on March 3, for the early release of prisoners on the 50th Anniversary of the National Reunification Day (April 30).

President Cường requests the Government, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuracy and relevant agencies to direct the amnesty and ensure fairness, transparency, meeting political, legal and humanitarian requirements.

He emphasised the need to enhance educational efforts across all segments of society regarding amnesty, enabling individuals to oversee the amnesty process effectively. Additionally, he urged collaboration with various sectors to support the successful reintegration of released individuals into the community, facilitating their transformation into productive members of society.— VNS
