HÀ NỘI — The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Việt Nam, 13th term, convened in Hà Nội on Saturday to address personnel matters.
The morning session, chaired by Politburo member and Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, culminated in the unanimous election of President Tô Lâm as the new Party General Secretary.
The afternoon session, chaired by the newly-elected Party General Secretary Tô Lâm, focused on reviewing the resignation requests of several high-ranking officials, including Lê Minh Khái, Central Committee Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister; Đặng Quốc Khánh, Central Committee member and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment; Nguyễn Xuân Ký, Central Committee member and Secretary of Quảng Ninh Province's Party Committee; and Chẩu Văn Lâm, Central Committee member and Secretary of Tuyên Quang Province's Party Committee.
Following investigations by the Central Inspection Commission, the Central Committee determined that the officials had violated Party regulations regarding duties and responsibilities, breached the rules prohibiting certain actions for Party members, and failed to adhere to anti-corruption and anti-negativity regulations.
The Central Committee, accordingly, accepted the resignations, effectively relieving Lê Minh Khái of his positions as Central Committee Secretary and member of the 13th Central Committee.
The Committee also agreed to remove Đặng Quốc Khánh, Nguyễn Xuân Ký, and Chẩu Văn Lâm from their positions as 13th Central Committee members. — VNS
