HÀ NỘI During his 57-year Party membership, Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng made many major contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

During the đổi mới (renewal), he left imprints in the Party's ideological work, contributing to planning policies and guidelines at the strategic level.

Politburo member Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for Information and Education made the assessment in his article entitled 'Imprints made by Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng in the Party's ideological work'.

The Party chief paid great attention to the Party's ideological work. He proved be an exceptionally excellent politician and thinker after holding important positions: Member of the Party Central Committee from the seventh term to the 13th term; Member of the Politburo from eight term VIII to the 13th term; Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Review; Secretary of the Hà Nội Party Committee; Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; National Assembly Chairman; President; Party General Secretary from the 11th term to the 13th term.

In all circumstances, he always demonstrated the bravery and intelligence of a communist with strategic vision, absolute loyalty to the Party, the Fatherland, the people and steadfast in Marxism-Leninism, Hồ Chí Minh's ideology, revolutionary goals and ideals of the Party and nation and the Party's principles.

According to Nghĩa, as a theorist, Party General Secretary Trọng made many special contributions thanks to his theoretical publications carrying high value. In his works, he summarised practice and raised it to a theoretical level of innovation.

Trọng was truly a sharp journalist and became an experienced writer of Việt Nam's revolutionary journalism.

His articles were strategic, visionary, but extremely accessible, easy to understand, easy to remember, highly combative and had the power to spread, impact and inspire emotions.

Many verses, folk songs, proverbs, and teachings of President Hồ Chí Minh were applied by the General Secretary in his journalistic writing style, demonstrating his sharpness and intellectual stature conveying the guidance of the leader of the Communist Party of Việt Nam.

It also demonstrated the rich and diverse writing style of a soldier on the cultural ideological front.

His articles and speeches made an important contribution to disseminating and educating the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws. It also protected the Party's ideological foundation, fought against wrong and hostile views, corruption, wastefulness, negativity, prevented and repelled ideological degradation as well as internal "self-evolution" and "self-transformation".

In Party building and rectification, General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng paid special attention, respect and high determination and stayed persistent in the goal of building a truly clean Party and political system.

In the field of ideological practice, ethics, and lifestyle, the General Secretary was a typical and shining example of self-study, self-training, self-reflection, self-correction and setting an example in all fields of Party building, especially in studying, following and setting an example to practice revolutionary ethics, studying and following Hồ Chí Minh's ideology, ethics and style.

As General Secretary, Trọng always demonstrated the core leadership role, together with the Central Executive Committee, Politburo and Secretariat to promptly and closely lead and direct the country’s construction the Fatherland’s protection, especially in building the Party in terms of politics, ideology, ethics, promoting the fight to prevent and repel the deterioration of political ideology, ethics, lifestyle, manifestations of internal transformation and fighting against corruption and negativity.

He often stated: "Ideological and cultural work must encourage the đổi mới process on the basis of maintaining political and social stability, strengthening unity throughout the Party, the entire army and people (unified awareness, unified will, unified action).” VNS
