HÀ NỘI — President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and President of the Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasised that Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng dedicated his life to the country and its people, fostering the relationship between the two Parties, the two States and the peoples of Việt Nam and Cambodia.

He made the statement at the meeting with President Tô Lâm on Thursday at the Presidential Palace. President Hun Sen was in Việt Nam to attend the State funeral of the General Secretary.

The Cambodian President conveyed his deep condolences on behalf of the CPP, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, the National Assembly, the Senate and the Cambodian people to the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV), the State, the National Assembly, and the people of Việt Nam on the passing of General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng.

Hun Sen praised the General Secretary for his significant contributions to the Party, the State and the people of Việt Nam. He recalled his meetings with General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng and thanked Việt Nam for its past assistance in helping Cambodia escape genocide and its ongoing support in national development.

He highlighted that under Nguyễn Phú Trọng's leadership, Việt Nam achieved significant socio-economic development and Party-building accomplishments. He affirmed that Cambodia would continue to nurture the relationship between the two Parties, the two States and the peoples of both countries.

Hun Sen also discussed various aspects of cooperation between the two countries.

President Tô Lâm expressed gratitude to the CPP Central Committee, the King, and the senior Cambodian leaders for their condolences on the passing of General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng. He acknowledged this as a profound reflection of the strong relationship between the two Parties, the two States and the peoples of Việt Nam and Cambodia.

He shared that the passing is a tremendous loss for the Party, the State, and the people of Việt Nam. He affirmed that throughout his leadership, the General Secretary consistently focused on strengthening and developing the Việt Nam-Cambodia relationship.

President Lâm emphasised the traditional bond and mutual cooperation between the two Parties, the two States as well as the trilateral relationship with Laos. He expressed joy over the continued consolidation and development of the relations between the two Parties and the two States in various fields.

The President also discussed several areas of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, economic connectivity, Mekong sub-region cooperation and ASEAN issues.

He affirmed that Việt Nam would do its utmost to maintain and nurture the good neighbourly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability of the Việt Nam-Cambodia relationship, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world. — VNS
