HÀ NỘI — More than 22,000 supporters came to Thiên Trường Stadium to watch Nam Định’s first match in the V. League after eight years, on Sunday.
Although the team did not have any member in the national U-23 team, the number of fans attending the game, which saw Nam Định draw 0-0 with Cần Thơ, was the highest of the first round.
In Pleiku, Hoàng Anh Gia with six national U-23 players saw 11,000 fans while Hà Nội with six U-23 members received 13,000.
The average number of the round was only 12,000 per match.
According to the organisers, 16,000 tickets were sold in one hour on Saturday. Some one hour before the matches, all tickets were sold. Many people had to buy tickets on the black-market at triple the price. They said it was worth it to see their beloved club competing in the V. League after so long.
Thiên Trường Stadium has 20,000 seats. It meant that about 2,000 fans had to stand for the entire duration of the match. They filled all the aisles between the seat blocks and the corridors. But no one was worried about that. They just cared about encouraging their team to do its best.
After the first round, Nam Định were placed seventh with one point. They will play former champions Becamex Bình Dương in the next round on March 16. — VNS
