The Việt Nam Publishers Association (VPA) and the People’s Committee of HCM City will host the annual conference of the Executive Committee of the ASEAN Book Publishers Association (ABPA) and sidelines activities from September 14-19. Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine, President of the VPA and rotating president of the ASEAN Book Publishers Association, Phạm Minh Tuấn, talks to the media about the event.

The Pasteur Institute in HCM City in coordination with the French Embassy in Việt Nam and French Consulate General in HCM City have organised a ceremony commemorating the bicentenary of Louis Pasteur’s birth with an exhibition showcasing his life and work.

Thousands of people joined in the UK Festival in downtown Hà Nội over the weekend. They enjoyed music from 911, food, saw some very British things like the Harry Potter platform, a double decker bus and the iconic Mini Cooper car. More people are expected to turn out at a similar event in HCM City this weekend. The events are in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The musicians will play pieces by French composers Camille Saint-Saëns, Claude Debussy, Ernest Chausson, Pablo de Sarasate and Maurice Ravel as well as Vietnamese musician Vũ Việt Anh.

The contest, with the theme “Amazing Kon Tum”, is organised by the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to introduce the landscapes, people, and culture of the Central Highlands to local and international visitors.

At the UK Festival in downtown Hà Nội last weekend, a highlight during the two-day event was British ambassador Iain Frew making scones with Vietnamese chef Phan Anh. The cake is often served with tea as part of the British afternoon tea custom.
