HÀ NỘI — The photograph Đất Võ (The Land of Martial Art) by Hoàng Bích Nhung has won first prize at the photo contest Vẻ Đẹp Việt Nam (The Charm of Việt Nam).
This is the third year the contest has been held by Nhân Dân (People) newspaper with the aim to honour excellent works showcasing Việt Nam’s beauty by Vietnamese photographers.
Trong Vòng Tay Ngoại (In the Embrace of Grandma) by Nguyễn Thị Lệ Sương was the runner up while Cúng 30 Tết (Worshipping the Ancestor) by Trần Duy Tình, Nhảy Sạp Mùa Xuân (Dancing in the Spring) by Phạm Quốc Hưng and Chắp Cánh Ước Mơ Xanh (Empower Dreams) by Đỗ Trọng Danh were second runner-ups.
“I could see that the quality and quantity of photo entries has improved over the years. This makes the photo contest a playground for both professional and non-professional photographers. We consider it an achievement that the contest has attracted more participants and is known more widely. The themes are also more practical and close to life. We are happy that young photographers join the contest, though the number is small, they bring about a new perspective. I believe that this contest helps to push the development of photography in Việt Nam,” said juror Việt Văn.
The final round of the contest features 10 photos which are the best photos of each month in 2018. Jurors are well-known figures of Việt Nam photography including Vũ Huyến, photojournalist of Việt Nam News Việt Thanh, Vũ Anh Tuấn, journalist Việt Văn and writer Hữu Việt.
Launched early this year, the contest attracted nearly 8,000 photo entries by 100 professional and non-professional photographers nationwide. — VNS
