Through the lens: Biggest wedding ever for people with disabilities at pagoda

Fifty couples with disabilities from HCM City were married in a group wedding at Giác Ngộ Pagoda in HCM City’s District 10 on Friday (Dec 21).

HCM CITY — Fifty couples with disabilities from HCM City were married in a group wedding at Giác Ngộ Pagoda in HCM City’s District 10 on Friday.

Most of them have impaired mobility, or are visually or hearing impaired.

Each couple was presented a wedding package worth VNĐ20 million (US$860), including a wedding table of vegetarian food, two wedding rings, two áo dài (Vietnamese traditional dress), flowers, make-up, hairdressing, a wedding photo album, a tea set, a Buddhist book, and a Buddha statue, among other services.

In addition, the couples were also provided a ride by cyclos from Hòa Bình (Peace) Park in District 10 to Bến Thành Market in District 1.

About 400 volunteers took part in preparing for the event, organised by the Đạo Phật Ngày Nay Fund.

The Việt Nam Record Organisation (VietKings) awarded a certificate and trophy to the organiser for holding the largest-ever group wedding for people with disabilities at a pagoda in Việt Nam. — VNS
