HCM CITY — The HCM City annual Tết (Lunar New Year) Book Fair opened at Mạc Thị Bưởi, Nguyễn Huệ and Ngô Đức Kế streets in District 1 tonight, or December 28 on the lunar calendar.
The event showcases more than 20,000 copies of books on various fields like literature, history, economy and politics, from nine local major publishers and book distributers.
Exhibitions featuring photos and documents on President Hồ Chí Minh, Mậu Thân Offensive, Hoàng Sa and Trường Sa Islands, and the development of HCM City through 320 years are also featured.
Dozens of special publications for Tết by the city’s major newspapers and magazines like Tuổi Trẻ (Youth), Thanh Niên (Young People) and Sài Gòn Giải Phóng (Liberated Sài Gòn) are displayed at the fair as well.
Dương Anh Đức, director of the HCM City’s Department of Information and Communications, said: “The annual Tết Book Fair shows the HCM City’s effort to promote reading habit and in Tết.”
“This year’s event has the theme of Khu Vườn Trí Thức (Garden of Knowledge), aiming to promote the knowledge of the city’s residents, and introduce foreign visitors of the modern HCM City,” he said.
The fair will close on February 19 (January 4 on the lunar calendar). — VNS
