ĐÀ NẴNG — Two paintings and two stone sculptures by artists Bùi Xuân Phái and Lê Công Thành are on display in an exhibition at Đà Nẵng’s Fine Arts Museum during Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday.

Hàn River, oil-on-canvas painted by Bùi Xuân Phái (1920-1988) in Đà Nẵng in 1984, was bought by the city in an auction for US$31,000.

It’s a rare painting by one of Việt Nam’s best-known artists, who was born and lived all his life in Hà Nội.

Sculptor Lê Công Thành, 86, also displays his two stone statues – Young Woman and Mother – and an oil painting Đà Nẵng City.

The two stone sculptures were made with stone from Non Nước Stone sculpture village in Đà Nẵng in 2007, while the paining depicts a corner of the city’s Trần Phú Street.

The museum will open its doors for the public during Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday between February 14 and 21.

The exhibition officially opened yesterday at 78 Lê Duẩn Street along with regular displays of more than 400 works including contemporary fine arts, sculptures and paintings. — VNS
