HÀ NỘI — Five Vietnamese cities will light up in red, blue and yellow tonight, symbolising Asean, as part of celebrations to mark Asean’s 50 Founding Anniversary.

The light show will take place from 6.45pm to 10pm at public places or construction works representing Asean in Hải Phòng, Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng, HCM City and Cần Thơ.

In Hà Nội, the show will take place at the August Revolution Square in front of the Opera House. The northern port city of Hải Phòng will light up the sky in downtown area with 13 Asean logos.

HCM City will showcase 3D art lighting at Thống Nhất Hall, HCM City Opera House, HCM City Museum, the post office and the city People’s Committee. Traffic will not be allowed on Lê Thánh Tôn Street between 6pm and 10pm when the light show is on.

In Đà Nẵng, the light show will be held at several places, including Phạm Văn Đồng-Võ Nguyên Giáp roads in front of Mỹ Khê Beach, Asia Park and Bạch Đằng-Nguyễn Văn Linh roads. Video clips will be screened on the three big screens to popularise the Asean community among locals.

Ninh Kiều Walking Bridge and Hai Bà Trưng Street in the southern city of Cần Thơ will also be decorated with lights tonight.

The event, with the theme Under One Light, we are One ASEAN, was initiated by the Philippines, which is the chair of Asean for 2017. It is aimed at highlighting the importance and benefits of the Asean community and will be held simultaneously in the capitals of the Asean member states. — VNS
