HÀ NỘI — Thirty paintings of renowned Vietnamese artist Nguyễn Tư Nghiêm (1922-2016) are being exhibited in downtown Hà Nội to commemorate his first death anniversary.

Titled Tưởng Như Còn Đây (As If Everything Were Here), the paintings, from various stages of the artist’s life, will help the audience understand the philosophy of a man who rarely exhibited his paintings. The paintings include well-known works such as Tết Trung Thu (Mid-autumn Festival, 1960), Trẻ Em Chơi Vẽ (Kids Paint, 1960) and Âu Cơ-Lạc Long Quân (2015). A self-portrait lacquer painting is also on display.

The exhibition will run at the Ngàn Phố Gallery, 82 Hàng Gai Street, till June 25. The gallery has hosted Nghiêm’s works twice before, in 1980 and in 2015.

“I remember my visits to Nguyễn Tư Nghiêm. He was full of enthusiasm to draw even in his last few months,” said Nguyễn Trung Thành, a representative of Ngàn Phố Gallery. “I feel as if he is still around.” — VNS
