HCM CITY – Four soloists from Japan and South Korea will perform in a special concert “The Art of Chamber Music” at HCM City Opera House on May 28.
The artists from Japan will include flutist Kaoru Kamiishi, harpist Nana Ishizaki and oboist Kosei Maekawa, while the Korean performer is pianist Ju Sun Young.
Kamiishi, who has performed with famous orchestras around the world, will play a contemporary piece A Flute Sleeps, and She Dreams by Japanese composer Shin-Ichiro Ikebe.
The flutist is currently a soloist with the Duisburg City Opera Orchestra and Philharmonisches Orchester Hagen in Germany, and Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa in Japan.
Harpist Ishizaki, who had won top prizes at international harp competitions in Japan, will perform Gabriel Pierne’s Impromptu – Caprice, op 9 for harp solo.
Oboist Maekawa will join pianist Ju in a 1951 composition by Japanese Kishio Hirao, Sonata for Oboe and Piano.
Maekawa was a founding member of the Tokyo Oriatoria Symphony. He performs with the Kosei Wind Orchestra, Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, and Osaka Symphony Orchestra.
Ju, who has performed at several venues in the US including Carnegie Hall in New York, will present a solo performance of Liszt’s La Campanella, No 3 in G-sharp minor from Grand Etudes de Paganini.
She will also perform with artists of the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO), including Meritorious Artist and cellist Nguyễn Tấn Anh, clarinetist Đào Nhật Quang, violinist Nguyễn Trúc Thiên, and pianist Lê Phạm Mỹ Dung.
They will play works by Schnittke, Rachmaninoff, Bizet and Piazzolla.
There will also be a performance of HBSO artists with works by Dvorak and Shostakovich.
