HCM CITY — A new musical Chuyện Tình Nàng Giáng Hương (Love Story of Giáng Hương) will debut at HCM City’s Hoà Bình Theatre.
The musical similar to a Broadway production, is co-produced by French director Sylvain Merille and Vietnamese director Trần Nguyễn Thiên Hương.
The play is based on a Vietnamese fairy tale, Từ Thức Gặp Tiên (Từ Thức Meets a Fairy). It is about the love between Từ Thức, a poor man, and a fairy named Giáng Hương. Both face challenges to live together. Finally, their love doesn’t have a happy ending.
"I’m interested in playing musical works. I have to work very hard to sing and dance at the same time on stage," said Nam Khánh, one of the show’s 20 actors.
Khánh and Tấn Đạt will play the role of Từ Thức, while two other artists, Hoàng Kim and Thanh Nguyên, will play Giáng Hương. These actors are graduates of the city’s Music Conservatory.
Chuyện Tình Nàng Giáng Hương will use music by famous composers such as Văn Cao, Trịnh Công Sơn, Phạm Duy and Ngô Thụy Miên.
The work will be performed at 8pm nightly from October 14 to 23 at Hòa Bình Theatre, 240 3 Tháng 2 Street, District 10. — VNS
