TORONTO – A Vietnamese film on childhood titled Tôi Thấy Hoa Vàng Trên Cỏ Xanh (I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass) has won Best Film at the TFF Kids International Film Festival 2016.

Released last October, the film directed by Victor Vũ was a cinematic phenomenon at the domestic box office, earning over VNĐ80 billion (US$3.6 million).

I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass also marks the successful co-operation between the Viet Nam Cinema Department and private film studios. The film was listed among the top 10 outstanding cultural events in Việt Nam and won the important Bông Sen Vàng or Golden Lotus prize at the 19th Viet Nam Film Festival last December.

The film was Việt Nam’s only representative at the TIFF Kids International Film Festival, which is part of the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. Besides this, it also bagged the best film award at the second Silk Road International Film Festival and the Golden Kite at the Viet Nam Film Festival 2015.

Hong Kong and Amsterdam-based Fortissimo Films, which handled international sales for the film, introduced the film at the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival. The film was also screened at the American Film Market in Los Angeles on November 8. — VNS
