HÀ NỘI — Italian Film Week in Việt Nam 2026 will kick off on October 27 in Hà Nội, featuring six award-winning films from directors spanning diverse backgrounds.

Some are new to the industry, while others are established names with decades of experience. Some filmmakers began their creative careers in performance art, opera or acting.

One of the showcased films will be La Grazia (The Pardon), written and directed by Academy Award-winning director Paolo Sorrentino.

The Pardon had its world premiere as the opening film of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival last year, where it won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor.

Sorrentino has presented seven of his films at the Competition at the Festival de Cannes, including Il Divo, which won the Prix du Jury in 2008. In 2014, his film The Great Beauty won the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, as well as a BAFTA and five European Film Awards.

Considered one of Italian cinema's most prominent filmmakers, Sorrentino is known for visually striking and complex dramas and has often been compared to Federico Fellini and Michelangelo Antonioni.

The festival is also expected to include My Tennis Maestro, Primavera, Sweetheart, The Last One On The Road and Diamonds. All the films have won awards at international film festivals, including the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists, Golden Globe Italy, and the Barcelona-Saint Jordi International Film Festival.

This year’s selections offer a multifaceted perspective on Italian society and its people, especially in a post-modern context. As the world faces unprecedented change, the films ask: what values define what it means to be human?

The films will be shown at the National Cinema Centre at 7.30pm, 87 Láng Hạ Street. Free tickets will be available at Casa Italia, 18 Lê Phụng Hiểu.

Tickets will be available from October 20 until tickets run out. Each attendee may register for a maximum of two tickets per film. — OVN/VNS
