HÀ NỘI — A newly opened photo exhibition, titled 51 Years – The Epic of Reunification, offers visitors an emotional journey through Việt Nam’s defining historical moments, bringing the past into vivid focus through powerful visual storytelling.
Held at the exhibition house at 45 Tràng Tiền Street, the showcase features more than 90 iconic photographs, many of which once drew international media attention.
Carefully curated, the exhibition unfolds as a chronological narrative divided into five thematic chapters, guiding visitors through pivotal moments in national history.
From the years following the Geneva Accords, when the country was divided through the intensity of wartime and the advance towards Sài Gòn, to the moment of reunification, the exhibition concludes with images of a revitalised Hồ Chí Minh City emerging in the modern era.
What sets the exhibition apart is its integration of digital technology. Rather than remaining static on gallery walls, each photograph is accompanied by a QR code allowing visitors to access additional information, including historical context and the stories behind each frame. This interactive approach transforms passive viewing into a more engaging and educational experience, particularly for younger audiences.
The use of digital tools in heritage presentation also reflects the spirit of Resolution No. 57 on digital transformation, which encourages the application of technology to improve public access to cultural and historical values, making them more accessible, interactive and relevant in the digital age.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Editor-in-Chief of Tiền Phong (Vanguard) Newspaper Phùng Công Sưởng, head of the organising committee, highlighted the emotional weight carried by the collection.
“Fifty-one years is a journey filled with profound emotions. These historical photographs are not merely archival materials but living memories of the nation, each capturing an unrepeatable moment in time,” he said.
“We hope to bring history closer to the public, especially younger generations, so that they not only look back at the past but also gain a deeper appreciation of the value of peace today.”
Beyond the exhibition space, the event also encourages dialogue through a panel discussion titled 51 Years – The Epic of Reunification: Looking Back and Moving Forward with Pride. The discussion brings together historical witnesses, veteran journalists, photographers and young representatives, creating a multi-generational exchange of perspectives.
Through first-hand accounts, participants revisit stories behind the lens while reflecting on the responsibilities of today’s generation in preserving and carrying forward the nation’s historical memory.
All displayed works are clearly copyrighted, ensuring both authenticity and high archival value. Spanning wartime recollections and contemporary perspectives, the exhibition underscores a central message: history is not distant but present in how it continues to shape national identity and future aspirations.
More than a retrospective, 51 Years – The Epic of Reunification poses a quiet yet powerful question to its audience: how will today’s generation continue this story?
Through the enduring power of images and lived testimony, the exhibition bridges generations, transforming still frames into resonant expressions of national pride.
In this way, it not only preserves memory but also points towards a future where digital innovation continues to enrich how history is experienced and shared, in line with Việt Nam’s broader digital transformation goals.
The exhibition runs from April 24 to May 3, with free admission for the public. — VNS
