HÀ NỘI — Central province Khánh Hòa's coastal Nha Trang City will host the First International Jazz Festival from April 27 to May 1.
Some 100 musicians from Singapore, South Korea and the US are expected to perform at the festival, while the Vietnamese band of saxophonist Trần Mạnh Tuấn, A-list pop singer Mỹ Linh, Thu Minh and Phương Vy will likely perform, according to the festival music director Hoàng Anh Minh.
"Five music nights will have five different themes: The Spotlight of Jazz, Living the Legend, The Latin Night, The Collection, and Jazz Flows," said Minh at the press conference in Hà Nội on Monday.
"The festival aims to bring audiences to diverse genres of jazz such as Classic, Bossa nova, Jazz funk and World music."
The jazz festival will be co-held by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
“We’ll do our utmost to successfully organise this inaugural event so that we can have a second and a third time to turn Nha Trang into a destination for jazz music in Việt Nam,” said Nguyễn Văn Nhuận, the department's director.
“To that end, Khánh Hòa has worked closely with the ministry with a focus on technical issues because jazz is a sophisticated type of music.
"We’ve organised contract bidding to select the most qualified companies to ensure technical requirements are met for this international music festival."
Festival events will take place at the Hai Tháng Tư Square and Thanh Niên Stadium. VNS
