HÀ NỘI Vietnamese fashion designer Nguyễn Minh Tuấn has impressed international fashionistas by contributing to the victory of Miss Curaçao, Andreina Pereira, at the Miss Supranational Caribbean 2023 pageant.

Having Tuấn as the main designer for her outfits, the beauty queen also won the title of "Fan Favourite" and placed in the top 24 of the Miss Supranational 2023 competition.

Pereira made history for the island nation at the Miss Supranational pageant by becoming the first-ever winner of the Miss Supranational Caribbean 2023 title.

The 28-year-old beauty queen holds a degree in Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Curaçao. Prior to winning the Miss Supranational Caribbean 2023 title, Pereira was also named the second runner-up in the Miss Universe Curaçao 2022 pageant.

In February, Pereira was crowned Miss Supranational Curaçao 2023, paving the way for her to compete in the Miss Supranational Caribbean pageant. Her team chose Vietnamese fashion designer Nguyễn Minh Tuấn for the preparation of her outfits for the competition.

The organisers of the Miss Supranational Curaçao pageant praised the high-end craftsmanship and attention to detail in Tuấn’s designs. They noted that his creations are made with exquisite handiwork, with a focus on each and every detail, and are always innovative and outstanding. The Vietnamese designer’s elegant and sophisticated outfits that blend modern and classic elements have helped many beauty queens, celebrities, and models worldwide showcase their beauty.

Tuấn's team sent 12 outfits weighing over 30kg to Curaçao for the Miss Supranational Caribbean 2023 pageant. Among them were two new designs created specifically for the semifinal and final rounds of the competition, while the remaining 10 outfits were selected from his previous collections.

According to Tuấn, the design that Pereira wore when she was crowned Miss Supranational Caribbean 2023 is inspired by the message Orange the World, an initiative launched by the United Nations on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The message calls for an end to violence against women and young girls. The dress is made of sheer orange fabric adorned with thousands of crystals, glass beads, and other embellishments in a Baroque pattern that originated from the Renaissance period. This pattern conveys an image of royalty, nobility, and authority for the wearer.

The white evening gown Pereira wore in the semifinals represents the spirit of the people of Curaçao, a Dutch island nation in the Caribbean Sea. The white colour symbolises the acceptance of challenges and the determination to overcome them with the unbreakable strength of the local community. Additionally, the colour and feathered shawl also represent the symbol of the dove of peace. The crystals, glass beads, and other embellishments adorning the dress are cleverly arranged along the gown to create the image of fluttering feathers, resembling the shape of the shawl.

Throughout the competition, Miss Supranational Curaçao wore a total of eight designs by the Vietnamese designer.

Besides Curaçao, the contestant from the Dominican Republic, Crystal Matos, also chose two designs by Tuấn for the sash ceremony and semifinals.

By mid-July 2023, the Vietnamese fashion designer has designed outfits for 10 beauty queens who have won titles such as Miss Universe, Miss Earth, and Miss Grand International.

“This success is a great motivation for my team to continue innovating and improving the quality of our brand while working with partners both domestically and internationally,” Tuấn said.

He revealed that he will get involved in many new and exciting projects in the second half of this year, such as introducing a new collection in a solo fashion show, becoming a mentor for Miss Grand Vietnam 2023, and showcasing a new collection in the Miss Intercontinental pageant. VNS
