HÀ NỘI — Guitar prodigy Sungha Jung, from the Republic of Korea, will perform Vietnamese viral hit See Tình during his Sungha Jung Live in Vietnam 2023 tour this July.

Jung, who is returning to Việt Nam after five years, will play at the Youth Theatre of Vietnam in Hà Nội on July 14, VOH Music Online Theatre in HCM City on July 15 and Nguyễn Hiến Dĩnh Tuồng Theatre in Đà Nẵng City the following day. This is also the first time that Jung’s concerts are held in three major cities in Việt Nam.

Jung started playing guitar at the age of 10. The 26-year-old fingerstyle guitar virtuoso has been hailed by many guitar lovers and musicians around the world as one of the finest young fingerstyle guitarists. His YouTube channel has more than 7.1 million subscribers and nearly two billion views. He has gained over 15 achievements through his YouTube channel, six of which are first-ranking.

Known for his diverse repertoire of self-composed and arranged music, Jung released his 9th solo album Poetry last August. His mesmerising guitar performances featuring popular tracks such as Felicity, River Flows In You, Irony, On A Brisk Day, Flaming, The Phantom of the Opera, and Haru Haru have captured the hearts of music lovers.

In particular, his cover of the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song has garnered the most attention with 64 million views.

He has collaborated with many famous artists from South Korea and around the world, including 2NE1, G-Dragon, Jason Mraz, Tommy Emmanuel, Kotaro Oshio, Andy McKee, and Trace Bundy. He has also toured extensively in countries such as France, the US, Australia, Denmark, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and China.

For Vietnamese audiences, Sungha Jung is primarily known for his music on YouTube. He is also the first foreign fingerstyle guitar artist to perform in Việt Nam.

Tickets of Sungha Jung Live in Vietnam 2023 cost from VNĐ700,000-1,800,000 (US$29-76), which are being sold on ticketbox.vn.

According to Đỗ Dương Tùng, chairman of the Vietnam Fingerstyle Guitar Organisation (VNFS), Fingerstyle Guitar (FS) is a unique and innovative type of guitar originating from the United States, and has become more well-known in Việt Nam in recent years. With the one-man-band playing style, only one person with a single guitar can create the sound of an entire band.

"FS represents a complete innovation in technique, hand positions, and imagination regarding the sound that a guitar can produce, conveying many different styles and genres of music," Tùng told vietnamplus.vn.

"Therefore, FS is the highest form of creativity. Players are free to create completely new techniques and hand positions, showcasing their own unique style."

This is the sixth time that Wind Strings Music company has collaborated with the Youth Theatre of Vietnam and the VNFS to organise Sungha Jung's tour in Việt Nam.

"With our efforts to organise performances by international artists to promote the development of FS in our country, we hope to attract more Vietnamese audiences to this new style of guitar and bring the art closer to the public.
