Photo exhibit celebrates 40th anniversary of HCM City Photography Association

An outdoor photo exhibition about HCM City opened last weekend on Đồng Khởi Street to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the city’s Photography Association.

HCM CITY — An outdoor photo exhibition about HCM City and its history has openeed on Đồng Khởi Street to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the city’s Photography Association.

The event, called Con Đường Nhiếp Ảnh Nghệ Thuật (Photos on the Street), features 200 black-and-white and colour photos highlighting the contributions of labourers and farmers during the city’s history and development. 

Photos capture the city’s culture and lifestyle, and local people in daily life. Many pictures portray the creativity of city people, particularly students and young women. 

The event includes a series of prize-winning photos captured by the association’s members.

“I understand more about my home city and its history and culture, and local people’s contributions to city’s developments,” said Nguyễn Gia Nghi, a 11th-grade student at the Việt Nam- Australia Primary and Senior Secondary School in Phú Nhuận District, who visited the exhibition’s opening ceremony Friday morning. 

“Through the exhibition, we hope to encourage local youngsters to learn more about the city’s history and developments,” said Đoàn Hoài Trung, chairman of the association, a member of the event’s art board.

Accrording to Trung, the location of the exhibition, along Đồng Khởi Street from the office building of the HCM City Department of Culture and Sports to Chi Lăng Park in District 1, will be used for outdoor photo exhibitions for both citizens and tourists. 

“Local authorities will have new policies to support and develop the association's activities.” 

The exhibition is being held at Chi Lăng Park and on Đồng Khởi Street in District 1. It will run through December 31. VNS
