ĐẮK NÔNG — The People’s Procuracy of Central Highlands Đắk Nông Province has arrested the former director of a forestry company as part of an investigation into the destruction of 2,000 hectares of forest.

Lê Xuân Bảo, former director of Quảng Đức Forestry Co. Ltd., will be prosecuted for irresponsible management of the forest area, resulting in serious consequences.

According to initial investigations, in 2010, the province handed over 12,301 hectares of forest to the Quảng Đức company to carry out forestry protection activities including growing, preserving and managing the forest areas.

However, Bảo and the former head of the company’s forest protection and management board, Thái Thanh Tâm, were irresponsible in the leadership of the company. As a result, more than 2,000 hectares were destroyed and encroached upon.

Tâm will also be prosecuted alongside Bảo, and faces the same charges.

The investigation is ongoing. — VNS
