HÀ NỘI - The National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Centre reported at 1am on Sunday that the No.1 storm (Chaba) has weakened into a tropical depression.
Three hours later, the low pressure area's centre position was in the southern region of China’s Guangxi Province. The strongest wind was below level six (less than 39km/h).
Throughout July 3, the low pressure area moved in the north-northwest direction, weakening and gradually dissipating.
The centre forecasts scattered showers and thunderstorms, with heavy rain in the northwest region on Sunday evening.
Rain with the possibility of lightning, hail and strong winds will continue in the north over the next few days. There is also a risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
In order to proactively respond to and minimise damage caused by heavy rain and possible flood risks, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control asked that authorities of provinces and cities closely monitor news reports, and quickly direct local people to safety if needed.
Authorities should also inspect residential areas near rivers and evacuate if deemed necessary. VNS
