HCM CITY — Uncle Tetsu, a famous Japanese cheesecake brand, has come to Việt Nam as a franchise, with the first store opening late last week at 78 Nguyễn Đình Chiểu in HCM City’s District 1.

Uncle Tetsu was first launched in Japan in 1990 by Tetsushi Mizokami. With experience garnered from a long baking tradition in his family, he created a cheese cake with unique Japanese cuisine features.

Made from scratch using only the highest quality ingredients, Uncle Tetsu Japanese cheesecakes combine the richness of American cheesecakes with the lightness of French soufflés.

Since it was first launched in Japan in 1990, it has become an international phenomenon with fans around the globe.

Nguyễn Hoài Phương, general director of Uncle Tetsu Vietnam Co Ltd, who has brought the brand to Việt Nam, said: “it took us three years to negotiate with Tetsushi Mizokami and prepare to open the first shop.

“Japanese are very careful and so getting a license was a tough but interesting journey. We hope the new brand will further diversify cuisine in Việt Nam.”

Phương was also the one to bring the famous Gong Cha bubble tea to the country.

According to Uncle Tetsu Vietnam, two flavours are now sold in Việt Nam, original cheese cake and honey cheesecake, which cost VNĐ149,000 (US$6.5) and VNĐ159,000 ($7).

Speaking to Việt Nam News, the company said all the production steps are strictly controlled and shown live for the Japanese partners to control.

The company said: “Every day a limited volume is baked. In the first few days all 150 cakes were sold in two or three hours.”

Over the last 30 years Uncle Tetsu’s cheesecake has been introduced to the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, mainland China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Cambodia. — VNS
