HÀ NỘI — Budget carriers Jetstar Pacific and Vietjet Air announced they will suspend operating routes to and from ASEAN countries, including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, from March 20.

The announcement was made a day after national carrier Vietnam Airlines said that it will suspend all international routes on its flight network until April 30.

Vietjet Air has not yet made decisions for some of the international routes it operates, such as between Việt Nam and Taiwan (China), Japan and India.

The operations may be halted until April. However, it will depend on the ability to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bamboo Airways also announced that it will delay plans to operate direct flights from Hà Nội to Prague (Czech Republic) as originally scheduled on March 29. The route was expected to open at the end of April. The airline has suspended its international flights.

Airlines said that passengers on flights affected by schedule changes during the COVID-19 pandemic will be able to change flight dates and itineraries after the pandemic is controlled for free.

Previously, Vietnamese airlines temporarily stopped operating routes between Việt Nam and mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, South Korea, France, Russia and Malaysia due to the impact of COVID-19.

According to Nội Bai International Airport, guests coming from areas affected by COVID-19 from March 19 will be isolated and tested, in addition to providing health declarations. This is a solution jointly agreed by the ministries of health and transport, to reduce congestion at the airport because of the high number of medical quarantine procedures for arrivals.

Passengers who have not come from areas affected by the outbreak will still provide medical declarations and enter under current regulations.

With passengers making electronic medical declarations, medical staff will check passenger information on the system. If it has not been updated, they will have to declare on the paper form.

After completing the medical declaration, passengers will go through an automatic body temperature scanner before arriving at the immigration area. — VNS
