HÀ NỘI — Marie C. Damour, the US consul general in HCM City, pledged to create a bridge for An Giang’s agricultural products such as rice and fruit to export to the US in the future.

A mission of the US Consulate in HCM City paid a working visit to the Mekong Delta province of An Giang to discuss co-operation and investment between the province and the US on Monday.

At the meeting, Nguyễn Thanh Bình, chairman of the people's committee of An Giang province highly appreciated the positive results in the co-operation between the US and the province through the support of the US Consulate in HCM City.

Exports of An Giang's mango to the US has opened up new prospects for Vietnamese fruits to penetrate the US market.

The tra fish (pangasius) industry of the province has also affirmed its position and quality in the US market for many years.

At the meeting, the provincial people's committee also told the mission about the potential of rice exports of the province.

An Giang is currently the province with leading rice production in Việt Nam with a total production of more than four million tonnes, with many high quality rice products.

The chairman of the provincial people's committee emphasised that the province had worked with the US in the fields of health and education.

The chairman proposed the US Consulate in HCM City to be a bridge to introduce American businesses and investors to the province in areas including smart cities, renewable energy, water security and climate change in the future. — VNS
