BRUSSELS — Minister of Industry and Trade Trần Tuấn Anh on Tuesday discussed measures to speed up the signing of the Europe-Việt Nam economic agreements with European business associations.

At the meeting, the minister provided relevant information about the agreements between Việt Nam and the EU, which are the EU-Việt Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Việt Nam Investment Promotion Agreement (EVIPA).

He told participants that the ministry was developing specific action programmes and talking regularly to European business associations and organisations.

He asked European partners to keep working to get the European Parliament’s approval of the agreements after they are signed.

In response, representatives of the European business associations proposed they help boost the signing and ratification of the two deals, expanding EU-Việt Nam trade relations.

Secretary General of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association Erik Jonnaert told the Vietnam News Agency on the sidelines of the meeting that he hopes the EU and Viet Nam will sign the agreements later this month and the European Parliament will ratify the deals later this year or early 2020. — VNS
